The OCD Film Festival is a special project of OCD TEXAS, an affiliate of the International OCD Foundation, that is running now through international OCD Awareness Week (Oct 8-14).
Online: We've selected feature films, shorts, and animated films, plus a TV show -- reviews are posted, by members of the OCD community, along with questions to kick off discussion. Let's start the important conversation about how we can begin to to wash away the myths and stereotypes associated with this serious disorder.
Onsite: We are also gathering for special film screenings -- around Texas and around the world -- during OCD Awareness Week. We encourage you to host your own special OCD film events, large or small, wherever you may be. To add your event to our listing, contact Irene and Julie, OCD Film Festival Coordinators, at filmfest@ocdtexas.org. Check back soon for listings.
"Changing Perceptions of OCD Through Media and Art" will be the theme of a special Facebook event, noon-1pm Central, on Oct 13 -- please join us for that discussion with filmmakers (details coming soon). And if you can make it to Austin, Texas, please join us for our can't-miss OCD Conference - Austin Oct 13: “Washing Away Myths and Stereotypes about OCD - and Secrecy and Shame”.
Please help us get the word out -- forward a link to this page to anyone you think might be interested. And please visit us -- and like us! -- on Facebook and YouTube. Thanks!
What a great event! This is a valuable, accessible resource for people who want to learn more about OCD.
ReplyDeleteThis event is valuable for everyone because like so many things, if it's not already in your life, it could appear around any corner - and being more thoughtful, prepared and educated would be the most helpful and kind hearted way to approach it. As Good As It Gets is full of love and a personal favorite.
ReplyDeleteMy niece is OCD so this festival is a Great opportunity to get the word out. Mommie Dearest showed the extreme and how it impacts everyone's life negatively. Luckily my niece has a life more like As Good As It Gets. Great idea!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool idea to bring together these films for a discussion of how OCD is portrayed in the media. I have found a great deal of variability in the ways that directors and actors approach characters with OCD, and (for better or worse) these films are what often educates society about the disorder.
ReplyDeleteFilms are now a strong part of our entertainment.IN this busy life it is very important to spare some time for your entertainment.
