OVER AND OVER (AND OVER) AGAIN

ABOUT the film:  Over and Over (and Over) Again is a short film about a teenager with OCD. He struggles with leaving the house, spending hours upon hours checking windows, plugs and doors to make sure everything is locked. His testimony gives insight into how teenagers might suffer terribly from OCD without even having a name for the disorder, without any idea that help might be available.

REVIEW by Julie:  What I like best about this short is that Danny talks about how on one hand he believed what his OCD was telling him while on the hand he felt "normal" and just told himself to stop being "stupid." I think this is something that all of us OCD sufferers struggle with and it is a constant battle for us to not believe what our OCD tells us because its voice is so incredibly loud at times. The best thing we can do is talk back to our OCD and tell it that WE are the one in charge and not the other way around!

DISCUSS the film (in comments section below):
  • Danny tells us about how he sought reassurance from his mother, but he still was plagued by concerns that he had left doors and windows unlocked. If you or someone you love has OCD, how is reassurance-seeking part of your OCD?
  • How well does this film educate the public about what it is like to have OCD?
  • This film shows us a lot of struggle and anguish. What is it like for you to watch this film, compared with some of the humorous portrayals of OCD in the other films in this film festival?
