JULIUS

ABOUT the film:  Julius explores a coming-of-age story of intrusive thoughts and compulsive rituals, fusing theatre, dance and opera. As an adolescent boy in rural Italy learns about the life, times and many lovers of Julius Caesar, he begins to experience intrusive thoughts of himself as a Roman emperor, in bizarre and taboo situations. The characters surrounding Julius are also the protagonists of his obsessions: his Teacher, the Priest that confesses him, his Granny and his closest friend, Brutus.

Julius was recently presented as a multi-screen film at GV Art Gallery in London, with each screen projected on separate walls and the ceiling, to provide an immersive and in the round experience for the viewer. The second part of the film will be created in the forthcoming months and premiered in 2013.

  1. This film is a wonderful exploration of intrusive thoughts and the compulsions they may cause. I've never seen this topic explored in such an original way and I found it both beautiful and moving.
I understand the the film would be presented on different screens, I would love to see that version too.
Thank you for a great experience

  2. A fantastic journey through obsessions and compulsions. It's great to see OCD depicted in ways other than the usual hand-washing stereotype - also great to see that a team of psychiatrists has been involved in the conception of this piece. The performances are great and it's good to see some humour too. Love the imagery and the music. I checked Elastic Theatre's website and I hope they're planning to tour soon as the productions look really fascinating.
